THE release of 250 balloons will help a village gala celebrate a quarter-of-a-century of local fun.
This year's gala at Romanby, Northallerton, will be held at the leisure park on Ainderby Road on July 1.
The village originally held sports days in the 1950s, and they eventually developed into a gala in its present form.
The gala has reached its 25th year with the help of sponsorship from local organisations and the dedication of a small committee of villagers determined to keep it as an annual event.
This year, Northallerton Silver Band and a London double-decker bus will lead the gala queen and fancy dress entrants from Romanby village green, at 2pm, along Ainderby Road to the judging and official opening by the Mayor of Northallerton, John Prest.
Attractions include a flying demonstration by Sion Hall Birds of Prey Centre and displays by Stockton Morris Men.
There will be side stalls, six-a-side football, childrens' sports, and teas provided by the ladies of Romanby Methodist Church.
A spokesman said: "Over the past few years, it has been a struggle to keep this event going for the village.
"It is always well attended, but we are appealing for people with new ideas to come forward and help with the organisation both before and on the day to enable this event to keep going."
