TWO five-year-olds became among the youngest couples to get married when they tied the knot yesterday.
Joseph Carruthers and Holly Railton made their vows in front of parents, grandparents and friends at Delves Lane Methodist Church, Delves Lane, near Consett.
The ceremony, conducted by Reverend Stephen Dallin, included the exchange of vows and was followed by a reception at Delves Lane Infants School.
The Rev Dallin said: "The aim was to show them what the marriage ceremony is all about and what the Christian view of marriage is. For many, this is the first time they have seen a wedding. Hopefully, it will also teach them about relationships and how important it is to get on with each other."
Reception class teache, and foundation stage unit manager Becky Woods said: "We have been looking at Christianity and celebrations. This year, we decided to look at marriage."
