A RETIRING club president has handed over the reins to her successor.
Dr Judy Sheahan has completed a year as president of Soroptimist International's Richmond and Dales branch.
During her year, £2,000 was donated to Riding for the Disabled groups in Catterick and Bedale, £700 went to Northallerton Breast Cancer Support Group, and smaller donations went to several other charities.
The president for the club's 50th anniversary year is Sue Fenwick.
Celebration events will include a lunch for past members, an exhibition at Richmond library and an anniversary weekend early next month.
The highlight of the weekend will be a dinner at the Morritt Arms where the after-dinner speakers will be members of the the Ryedale WI Calendar Girls.
Mrs Fenwick has not nominated a charity, but plans to raise funds for various local causes.
