A motorist has denied that his excessive speed was to blame for a serious injury accident on a country road.
James Christopher Moss, 22, is accused of dangerous driving, following a collision between two cars on the A6076 Causey Road, between Stanley, County Durham, and Sunniside, near Gateshead.
Mr Moss was at the wheel of a Volkswagen Polo which swerved to avoid a heavy goods vehicle, emerging onto the A6076 from a side road, before being in collision with another car.
The driver of the other vehicle suffered serious injuries in the accident, last May, from which she is said to be still recovering.
At Durham Crown Court yesterday, Mr Moss, of Holmwood Grove, Jesmond, Newcastle, denied dangerous driving.
The case was adjourned for a trial due to take place in October.
