A VILLAGE is to get a barbecue area in memory of one its most spirited residents.
Residents of Sadberge have given up their own time and money to build the patio to honour Colin Craggs, who died 18 months ago.
Volunteers and workers have been building the barbecue area behind the village hall for two months.
Sponsors and guests are being invited to the official opening on Saturday followed by the first barbecue, starting at 8pm.
Mr Craggs was a leading member of Sadberge, which included hosting his own barbecues for the village with his wife, Pat.
Parish councillor Mally Schott, also a member of the Sadberge Village Hall Association Committee, decided to dedicate the area to Mr Craggs.
He said: "Colin worked on the village hall committee for years, and spent much of his time keeping it in good repair, but after cooking on many occasions in the rain, he always wanted a covered paved area at the hall for a barbecue. This is such a fitting tribute to his memory. I have been overwhelmed by people's readiness to give."
The area includes a giant chess and draughts board. A plaque will be unveiled in memory of Mr Craggs at the opening event.
