in a row deservedly beating the new 1st Div Champions in a tight match played on a bouncy plastic pitch at Hurworth. Both teams had key players missing and the difficult surface was affecting the quality of any football being played. N&SA took the lead when a nicely flighted Josh Sutcliffe free kick flicked off the head of a Marton defender into the net under a challenge from Adam Nicholson. N&SA were never in trouble and Marton managed only one decent effort that worried their keeper. Second half saw Marton press forward a bit more but the usual impressive display from the N&SA backline held Marton at bay. An equaliser looked on the cards and it came when a dubious penalty was awarded and then expertly tucked away. Marton had their tails up and were on top but a tactical switch gave N&SA the upper hand as captain James Cass broke away stormed past two Marton players and crashed the ball home from 25 yards to make it 2-1 with just ten minutes left. N&SA are experts in defending a lead and were in no mood to change now, one fantastic save from keeper Andy Martin kept Marton out and was enough to add the League Cup to the Durham County Cup to end another successful season for this squad. James Cass got Man of the Match but there were impressive performances from the whole team especially Johnny Lee and Josh Sutcliffe.
