BAYONETS fixed, swords drawn, drums beating and colours flying. It was a dramatic scene when a regimental freedom parade marched through the streets of Middlesbrough.
The 34th Northern Signal Regiment Volunteers, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel David Sixsmith, and accompanied by the Royal Signals Band, brought the town centre to a standstill on Saturday morning.
The regiment was presented to Mayor Ray Mallon and Commander 15 (North East) Brigade, Brigadier Richard Dennis OBE, to be inspected.
The freedom parade originates from medieval times, when trusted regiments were allowed to march through towns and cities as a mark of respect.
