STAFF at the children's information service, in Hartlepool, are celebrating after being selected for a national award.
The service, which offers a wide range of advice and information to parents and carers on childcare, has earned the Matrix Standard, a national quality mark for organisations delivering information, advice and guidance on learning and work.
The Hartlepool Borough Council-run service, which is based in the Central Library, in York Road, began working towards the award in 2004.
Childcare development officer Lynda Smith said: "The Matrix Standard has had an impact on our service like nothing else before.
"It is all about continuous improvement, and this principle has become completely embedded in our internal inspection and quality-assurance procedures.
"It means that our customers can have the utmost confidence in the advice and information that they receive from us.
"All members of staff deserve praise for their hard work and commitment."
The service can be contacted on 01429-284284. It is open from 9am to 5pm, from Monday to Thursday, and from 9am to 4pm on Fridays. An answerphone service is available at other times.
