A COMPETITION has been launched to brighten up a sign directing visitors to craft units in a dales village.
Richmondshire District Council says the board at the entrance to the Silver Street workshops at Reeth, in Swaledale, does not do justice to the development's creative businesses.
The competition invites artists from the district to come up with designs to reflect the talent of the resident artisans, who include furniture makers, jewellers, photographers and sculptors.
Council culture and community wellbeing officer Lynda Powell said: "We really want the whole creative atmosphere of the place to be obvious and hope that will be reflected in the designs we receive during the competition."
The closing date for entries is June 29 and the new sign should be in place by mid-September.
Further details of the competition are available at www. richmondshire.gov.uk or from Ms Powell, on 01748-829100.
