SANTA Claus is coming to town – in a brand new sleigh.

The Darlington Bondgate Roundtable tradition has brought Santa to residential streets for more than a quarter of a century.

And now Father Christmas has a new sleigh to show off on his routes throughout Darlington and its surrounding villages.

His first trip of the festive season is Sunday afternoon (December 6) from 4.30pm outside Sadberge village hall.

Roundtable secretary, Simon MacConachie, said: “For the last 25 to 30 years, the sleigh has been coming around the streets of Darlington bringing Christmas cheer to families in the town.

“You’ll probably hear us before you see us and all the money we raise is distributed to great causes in the area.

“This is all done on a volunteer basis and we tend to raise around £7,000 a year and we’re always looking for new causes to give to.

“And this year is a little bit special, because we’ve had the same sleigh for around 30 years – no one is really sure how old it is – but we have a new one for this Christmas.”
