GREEN Party leader Natalie Bennett will visit the region from tomorrow (Thursday).

With the United Nations conference on climate change continuing in Paris, Ms Bennett will address public meetings on Sunderland on Thursday (December 3) and Newcastle on Saturday (December 5).

She will speak at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland on Thursday at 7.30pm and the Royal Station Hotel in Newcastle on Saturday at 10.45am.

The Green Party is calling for investment in cycling networks, disused railway lines such as Leamside and Ashington to be brought back into use and disinvestment from fossil fuels.

Also up for discussion will be opencast coal mining, underground coal gasification, building more roads, expanding Newcastle International Airport and building houses on greenfield sites.

The two events are open to all.
