ONE of Britain’s biggest bands loved a North-East student’s bootleg ‘mash-up’ of their music so much that they have included it in their latest album.
Bob Jackson, a first year University of Sunderland digital film production student, was contacted by The Prodigy’s Liam Howlett via Twitter to say he enjoyed what he had done to their track 'Stand Up' and wanted to include it on a deluxe edition of their latest album 'The Day Is My Enemy'.
Mr Jackson, from Sunderland, had overlaid the track with American hip-hop group Public Enemy’s ‘Shut ‘Em Down’ and posted it as a video on his YouTube channel.
The two bands are currently touring the UK together.
The 39-year-old mature student said: “Liam said he really liked what I had done and, as the tour is coming up with Public Enemy, said he’d love to put it out.
"When I found out it was on the album I was stunned.”
Mr Jackson said the musical mash-ups he creates and the process of creating videos for them was helping him out with his university course.
Nicholas Glean, a senior lecturer in video and new media at Sunderland University, said: “This is amazing news and a fantastic opportunity, I was delighted when I heard it.
“Bob is a talented student and I am glad that his skills and abilities are being appreciated, he is an asset to the course.”
