Bayliss inspires Stokesley win

Onight when rain played a major part only three games were completed Stokesley were the major run scorers as they piled up 128 for the loss of just one wicket in their 20 overs. Nick Bayliss led the run spree with an unbeaten 68 that set the visiting Yarm team a real test. Whilst Harrison gave a glimmer of hope to Yarm with his 35 they were always well short of their target and finished on 97 for eight with Stokesley's Gavin McGill taking three for 11 with his off spinners.

Normanby Hall proved too strong for Redcar as the Seasiders could only scrape a total of 70 for six together, with J.Evans picking up three for 11.

Hall made short work of their task passing the home side's total with nine wickets in hand.

Guisborough started their season with a win at Mandale Bottoms against a Thornaby side who restricted the visitors to 84 for six. However, Thornaby struggled and their innings closed ten runs short at 74 for eight.

The games at Marske, Marton and Saltburn were all abandoned.

Reader's Durham County League

Under-15s

Three rounds of junior matches took place in the space of five days and at the end of these there were only two teams remaining with unblemished records.

Bishop Auckland look unstoppable at the moment have won five out of five. Craig George was the star turn against Brandon when he scored 38 and then took three for 20 to earn his side a 22 run win.

Daniel Hardaker also made 35 in that match and then hit 48 at Newton Aycliffe a few days later when Daniel Craggs took top billing with an undefeated half century and five for 15, although T. Newton also made a little piece of history by only bowling three balls, but claiming a hat-trick with those as the home side collapsed to lose by 103 runs.In their third victory Bishops overcame Shildon Railway by six wickets, Angus Robertson making 40 not out.

Willington's record is four from four with Greg Pringle in staggering form. His 'stats' for the three games read 55 no, 53 no and 55 no added to which he has chipped in with a few wickets, including a three for 15. For his team this added up to a ten wicket win over Coundon, a 112 run win over Esh Winning and a ten wicket victory over Tudhoe, although that last game was remarkable in that only one wicket fell in the whole match as Tuhoe made 111 for one with Ord scoring an undefeated half century.

Highlights of the rest of the programme were two more half centuries for John Paul Nash of Shildon and his teammate Chris Young's four for 19 in the defeat of Newton Aycliffe, Sam Warren's 47 not out and 34 for Tudhoe and Nicky Britton's all round effort of 36 runs and four for 7 in Tudhoe's game with Ushaw Moor.

Under-18s

Willington have started strongly at under 18 as well as under 15 level and they easily overcame Ushaw Moor by nine wickets as they restricted the home side to 60 in their innings before J.Stock got amongst the runs again with an unbeaten 31 to steer them home.

Bishop Auckland have also made a positive start with Scott Oldfield's 63 being the rock around which their total of 113 for five was built. Hylton put up a brave effort but were eventually bowled out some 13 runs short of their target.

Langley Park picked up their second success when they easily overcame Brandon with Jack Brennan once again amongst the runs with 35 as his side cantered home by eight wickets. Tommy Orton made a fine 44 for Mainsforth as they also won by eight wickets at Crook.

Graham Hutchinson cracked 49 and Ryan Nicholson 46 as Evenwood amassed 122 for five against Shildon Railway for whom John Paul Nash took three for 10. The Railway ended 24 runs short despite having five wickets in hand. In the final game Esh Winning won by six wickets at Newton Aycliffe.

Foster's Northumberland Tyneside Senior League

Under-15s Tyneside Division - Cameron Shield

Blaydon overwhelmed home side Consett side on their way to making 121 for four. Liam Budlass with four for four and Ross Nicholson with three for none quickly cleaned up the Consett batsmen for just 43.

Burnopfield gained an eight wicket success at Chopwell as G. Rowe took three wickets for one run, only John Meadows (27) put up any resistance as the home side were restricted to 90 for nine. Christian Thompson (40no) saw Burnopfield through.

Glen Fletcher made a rapid 37 for Crookhall in their home match with Annfield Plain, but S.Stevenson took three for eight and made 20 as Plain who by five wickets. Shotley Bridge continued their perfect start to the season to overcome Ryton's modest score of 67 for two.

Nathan Clennell was in the runs again as he guided Lintz to an eight wicket win over Tantobie with an unbeaten 45, whilst at Whickham Daniel Sanderson's 41 not out was not enough to prevent them going down to Lanchester.

Ryton pulled off a comfortable eight wicket win at Chopwell as Daniel Graham grabbed three for 20 to help dismiss the home side for just 70. Jack Stanley's unbeaten 32 ensured their were no alarms for the visitors.

Shotley Bridge underlined their title aspirations thanks to Philip Miller who claimed seven for six runs against Crookhall in a ten wicket victory.

Under-18 League Cup

There were some big scores in the first round cup ties, and leading the way with a massive 199 for three was Consett, A.Cummins smashing 91 and S.Turnbull 53 as Crookhall's bowlers were put to the sword. In reply Crookhall could only muster 40.

Lintz powered to a seven wicket win over Ryton with Tim Hughes again in the runs with 45.

Annfield Plain must have thought they were home and dry at half-time when they had posted an imposing 154 for 1 against visitors Lanchester. John Green (62), Kieran Gohery (41no) and Kieran Taylor (32no) had been the driving force in the home innings. However the visitors gave it a real go and finished just nineteen short thanks mainly to Tweedy's 64. Liam Dixon exerted the necessary bowling control on the night with three for 31.

It was a night for bowlers at Burnopfield as the home side were held to a total of 92 for seven by Greenside, Dominic Henderson claiming three for 18. However the visitors could only then struggle to 78 for nine to lose by 14 runs, James Radcliffe picking up three for 12. Chopwell had an impressive ten wicket win at Swalwell for whom Todd Harrison made 48 out of a total of 89 for three.

In the game of the round Blaydon rattled up 128 for four, with Ross Nicholson (93no) the star.

However, this was not enough as Mick Cousin (35no) and Lewis Hall (30no) led the opposition through after Reynolds had claimed four cheap wickets to initially put Blaydon in the driving seat.

Foster's Durham Senior League

Under-18s

Marsden collected their second win in two starts after coming through a high scoring encounter at Whitburn with Conner Elliott proving the top man again. Marsden smashed an imposing 156 for two in their overs, Elliott making an unbeaten 69 and Micky Quinn also amongst the runs with 59.

Whitburn made a real fight of it and finished just fourteen runs short with four wickets down, Craig Henderson starring with 55.

Horden were another to record their second victory as they won their home game against Hetton Lyons thanks to a tremendous all round display from Scott Birks who hit 55 out of Horden's 116 for eight and then proceeded to take three for 14 when Lyons were bowled out for 91. Jamie Kitto added three more victims after taking five in the first game, and Craig Grines chipped in with three for 11.

South Shields maintained their one hundred per cent record when they disposed of visitors Boldon by seven wickets. Chris Watson kept a tight grip on the Boldon batsmen with three for 10, then Oliver Stedman made 33 to ease his team to victory.

Philadelphia had their first success of the season when beating Durham City by nine wickets away from home. City made 95 for five in their overs which proved nowhere near enough as Haswell led the Philli reply with an unbeaten half century.

Sunderland made 99 for four which appeared to give them a reasonable shout, Daniel Tansey top scoring with 38, but Eppleton, playing their first fixture of the season, won at a canter only losing one wicket in the process.

The Felling versus Burnmoor match was cancelled so only three clubs, South Shields, Marsden and Horden, enter the third round of matches with maximum points.
