THE new leader of a council says she and her colleagues will work together to improve residents' lives.
Conservative councillor Melva Steckles was elected leader of Richmondshire District Council on Tuesday.
Coun Steckles became ward member for Hornby Castle at the local elections earlier this month. She said: "I am looking forward to leading the council, backed by a strong, dedicated group of fellow councillors.
"We will work together, in partnership with council officers and other groups, to improve the lives of everyone in Richmondshire, wherever they live in the district."
