A MAN gave himself up to armed police earlier this evening after a house in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, was sealed off.
Armed police were called after reports that the man, who was with a woman in the house in Rhymer Way, had a Samurai sword.
Inspector Sarah Sanderson of North Yorkshire Police said that the woman was taken out of the house and the man followed her a short time afterwards after speaking with officers.
A number of weapons were later removed from the house. The incident began at about 4pm and ended shortly after the arrival of the armed response unit half an hour later.
The man was tonight being detained by police.
