A DALES women's institute has raised more than £700 for charity by staging its first sponsored walk.
More than 30 people took part in the eight-mile walk, organised by Westgate WI, in aid of the Stanhope and Weardale branch of the MS Society.
"It has been a wonderful effort by everyone involved," said WI president Freda Bulman. "What was particularly refreshing was the number of walkers from up and down the dale who took part. We are very grateful to everyone."
Walkers included a group from Wolsingham Wayfarers.
During the walk, from Westgate to Cowshill and back, donations were collected in shops and pubs.
"It's been so successful it's something we will have to think seriously about repeating," said Mrs Bulman.
