A LLAMA will be the star attraction at an open day this weekend.
Houghall Farm, at East Durham and Houghall Community College, on the outskirts of Durham City, bought the 6ft male llama at a rare breed auction in York a few weeks ago.
The 18-month-old creature, who has yet to be named, has settled in well. A college spokeswoman said: "The llama has taken to farm life well, enjoying being taken for walks in halter and rein by students.
"He has even made a new best friend. Students were surprised to find that he became close friends with the Vietnamese pot-bellied pig Droopy-Draws, who lives in the adjacent field.
"Droopy-Draws, who owes her name to her huge droopy belly, doesn't so much oink as bark, but the two spend many a happy hour together."
The college hopes to find a female companion for the llama. The animals will be among the attractions when the college holds its open day from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, at which people can take part in a competition to name the llama.
Admission is free, but parking will cost £1.
