A CYCLIST has died after being knocked down by a bus on the outskirts of Durham City on Tuesday, police have confirmed.
The accident happened at 11.15am on the B6532, between Durham City and Sacriston, near to the junction with Trouts Lane and involved a single-deck Go North East bus.
The cyclist, a local man believed to be in his eighties was confirmed dead at the scene.
The road remains closed for the time being between Trouts Lane and New College, Durham while the bus is recovered from the scene.
Go North East spokesman Stephen King said: "This morning Go North East service 16A, travelling between Durham and Sacriston was in a collision with a cyclist on the B6532.
"There were four people on board the bus at the time who, along with our driver, were uninjured.
"We understand from the police that the cyclist died at the scene and our thoughts are with his family at this time.
"We are assisting the Police with their accident investigation.”
