PHOTOGRAPHS, letters and memories from a historic Durham village are wanted for a community archive project.
The history of Brancepeth, a village which for centuries housed servants from Brancepeth Castle, is being preserved for the 21st Century, with thousands of documents, images and anecdotes already transferred to a computer.
With the backing of a £5,000 grant from Awards for All, the Brancepeth Archives and History group has been compiling the history for the last year, and is about to hold its first open day, when former residents, workers or visitors with memories of the area can add to the archive.
The archives and history group's first open day will take place in Brancepeth village hall on Saturday, June 2, between 10am and 4pm. Refreshments will be available.
Those wishing to contribute to the archive can bring photographs or documents to be scanned instantly, or have their spoken memories recorded.
