A football star returned to his former town last week to offer encouragement to youngsters.
Michael Mackay stepped in to present the awards at the annual Consett YMCA Juniors presentation evening held in the town's Empire Theatre after original guest Sir Bobby Robson had to cancel for health reasons.
The 24-year-old, who scored 43 goals in one season for Consett AFC before being transferred to Hartlepool United for £5,000 in February, presented awards to 200 youngsters.
Mr Mackay made his debut for the promotion-winning league side in the last game of the season and was given a warm welcome at the awards night.
Peter Killeen, of Consett YMCA Juniors, said: "Michael is a role model for young players.
"As a young lad he played for Waldridge Juniors, and he was a late developer, but he has shown a great example for his perseverance and the way he behaves as a professional."
More than 200 young footballers - boys and girls aged 11 to 18 - received awards for participation and achievements.
The Paul Brown Trophy for the best club goalkeeper went to Adam Southern of the under-18s, while the Hargreaves Shield was presented to Thomas McAloon, who scored 55 goals for the under-11s.
Club Secretary David Pyke was given an award for his contribution to the club.
