A YOUNG couple who have taken over a popular cafe are planning to sell more than just food.
Kimberley Sutherland, 21, and her partner, Wayne Stooke, 24, have re-opened what used to be Carlene's Coffee Shop, in Wheldon Terrace, Northallerton, as the Terrace Cafe.
Mr Stooke was head chef at the Swaledale Arms, in Morton-on-Swale, before he joined the cafe and has also worked at Lewis and Cooper's, in Northallerton.
The couple are hoping to make the venture a family affair, with Miss Sutherland's mother, Alyson, selling handmade greetings cards from a stand inside the premises.
And they also want to give other young people in business a chance.
"We've always worked in the trade," said Miss Sutherland. "I have been a waitress in lots of places in Northallerton.
"It's just a family-run business, but we are trying to get other young people in business involved as well.
"We have a friend who is a pastry chef and he has a stand inside the shop. And we are looking for a young artist to put their work in the cafe and people can buy it if they want to.
"We want to help out some other young people.
"It's only a small place, but there is a work side in the cafe area.
"The lady before us used to sell jewellery there and that's where we got the idea."
