VILLAGERS have presented a cheque to a charity that supports adults with learning difficulties.
The four churches from the parish of Easby with Skeeby, Brompton-on-Swale and Bolton-on-Swale raised £1,133 for Breathing Space.
Parishioners provided soup lunches during Lent.
Gina Tye, Breathing Space manager, was presented with the cheque by Mavis Palfreman.
Mrs Tye said: "Breathing Space can receive some grants from the Lottery fund and North Yorkshire County Council, but in order to be eligible for these grants, we have to raise £6,000 ourselves every year. This gift has given us a wonderful start to this year's fundraising and we are very grateful to all those who made it possible."
The charity is based at the Mencap Centre, in Northallerton. It provides social activities for adults with learning disabilities in Bedale, Easingwold, Northallerton, Richmondshire, Stokesley and Thirsk.
Mrs Tye said: "Without Breathing Space, some of our members would just never go out socially.
"Breathing Space gives them the opportunity to experience new activities which most of us take for granted."
