A LORRY driver was taken to hospital on Monday after his vehicle overturned shedding a load of carrots.

The accident took place just outside of Darlington at around 4.20pm.

The lorry overturned on the roundabout at junction 58 of the A1, near to Burtree.

The driver was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital suffering from minor injuries.

Two fire appliances were called to the scene to make the vehicle safe.

The Great North Air Ambulance also attended the incident.

A spokeswoman for the air ambulance said: A male driving the lorry was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

We attended the incident but did not transport him to hospital.

Inspector Tony Avery from Darlington police said: "Junction 58 has had to be closed and we are having to close the A68 out of Darlington for a period of time while the wagon is recovered."
