SWALWELL are the new leaders of the Foster's Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League after the early pace setters, Lintz, were unable to bowl a single ball due to the weather.

Swalwell, the only team with a 100 per cent record, now lead from Shotley Bridge with Lintz, frustrated in the washout against Annfield Plain, dropping down to fifth place.

Swalwell beat second bottom Benwell and Walbottle in a unexpectedly close match in which only 30 runs separated the teams at the finish. The leaders posted 143 with Peart (34) and Lloyd Anderson (30) handling the bowling well. But Angus with an unbeaten 43 kept Benwell in the game although they fell short of overs to finish on 113-8 and lost the game.

Shotley Bridge won for a third time when they beat Morpeth comfortably. Phil Carlin hit 68 and Wessel Hartslief added exactly 50 as the Bridge again showed their all-round power.

They totalled a formidable 226-9 despite the efforts of Palmer who took four wickets for 58.

David Jackson (3-15) and John Collingwood (3-17) confined Morpeth to 115 despite the effort of Wailes who made 48. Shotley won by 111 runs.

Leadgate had a runaway win against Percy Main , who lost their fourth game and are now bottom. A devastating spell of bowling by Stewart who took five wickets for just four runs skittled the Main for just 51 and they passed their target with the loss of just one wicket. Broom (3-24) and Innes (2-21) contributed to Percy Main's defeat.

Tynedale stayed firmly among the front runners with an easy win at Ashington. Darling (3-19) and Twizell (2-9) kept the home batsmen on the back foot and they managed just 86-7 in their alloted time. In contrast, Clark carried his bat for 38 as Tynedale lost just one wicket getting the runs required.

As well as the Lintz game being off due to the rain, Sacriston's ground was too saturated to get any play as well. They were due to play Newcastle City.

The League Division 2 programme was ravaged by the weather with only one of five games surviving. This featured a win for Greenside by four wickets at Alnwick.
