A WOMAN who offers a personal bra measuring service for patients who have undergone breast surgery has celebrated her first year in business.
Former lingerie sales consultant Susan Cooper, of Great Broughton, Stokesley, has helped more than 400 breast cancer patients across North Yorkshire and the North-East in her first year trading as The Bra Clinic.
Mrs Cooper operates a personal consultation, measuring and fitting service, offering support after surgery for women who have experienced difficulties finding a suitable bra.
The clinics are held at hospitals throughout Teesside and North Yorkshire, and offer women a private service when they are searching for bras after surgery.
Mrs Cooper's experience in the lingerie industry highlighted a need for bras for women who have had surgery.
She said: "Running The Bra Clinic is rewarding because I am helping to give ladies their confidence back and to feel more comfortable. Undergoing surgery for breast cancer is a devastating experience. Not only are patients confronted with the possibility of losing their lives, but the removal of a breast brings a sudden and distressing change in appearance.
"Body image after surgery is of huge importance to breast cancer patients, and the need for a properly-fitted bra is paramount for both self-esteem and comfort."
The Bra Clinics are held every Monday at the Holistic Cancer Care Centre, Middlesbrough - open by appointment on 01642-854839 - monthly at The Friarage, Northallerton, or monthly at the Nuffield, Newcastle. Private consultations are available by appointment on 07819-656628.
