AN artist used to painting the wild Scottish Highlands is to exhibit new pieces depicting the North Yorkshire countryside.
Jonathan Shearer is one of several artists who will showcase their work at the Lund Gallery, near York.
The gallery is opening its doors as part of the third North Yorkshire open studios event, in which more than 100 artists are taking part.
Mr Shearer's work will be displayed alongside that of other artists, including gallery owner Debbie Loane and North Yorkshire ceramicist Judith Davies.
Mr Shearer's Travels in Yorkshire exhibition has been commissioned for the Lund Gallery, and consists of more than 40 pieces, deeply rooted in the British landscape tradition.
"What struck me most about the Yorkshire Dales was the incredible light and colour," said Mr Shearer. "Another interesting feature was the winding roads and dry stone walls.
"In contrast, the North York Moors provided expansive open land and huge skies. Hopefully, in this exhibition, I can bring together all these elements in my paintings and capture something of the character of the Yorkshire landscape."
Travels in Yorkshire runs from Sunday to July 1. The gallery is open Thursday to Saturday, from 10am to 5pm, and noon to 4pm on Sundays and bank holidays.
