The Northern Echo Darlington Sunday Invitation League, League Cup Semi-Finals
THIS year's Northern Echo League Cup final will be between Haughton Grey Horse of the First Division and the Shuttle and Loom of the Second, after they both came through severe tests in their respective semis.
Haughton Grey Horse took on DSRM All Stars and soon found themselves chasing the game after John McKie finished well following excellent work down the flank by Dean Lowson.
It took Grey Horse until five minutes into the second half to strike back when a left wing corner found its way to the feet of Paul O'Hagan, whose goal bound shot through a melee of players was helped in by Gary Mitchell.
With extra-time looming, it was Mitchell once more who latched onto another left wing corner and headed the ball past the outstanding Dave Hardisty in the All Stars goal to put the Grey Horse through to the final.
Meanwhile the Shuttle and Loom`s progress was at the expense of Hurworth Albion, who simply could not find a way to round off some good build up play, and it was left to the Shuttle s Stuart Curry to provide the goal that proved to be the difference between the two sides in a 1-0 victory
Division One
The only game played in Division One saw East End WMC get to within a point of another title as they outclassed Stadia 11-1. And in midweek they clinched the league with a 3-0 win over Hurworth Albion.
Division Two
THE fate of the Fighting Cocks will go to the last Sunday of the league season as, needing three points to stave off the threat of relegation to Division Three. They could only manage an entertaining 4-4 draw with AFC Brinkburn.
The AFC Brinkburn scorers were man of the match Roy Applegarth, Matthew Smith, Chris Park and Steve Oliver, while the Fighting Cocks replies came via Craig McEvoy, James Rigall, Aaron Lucas and Michael Garvey.
The Killinghall Arms secured their promotion with an uninspiring 1-0 victory against the Red Lion; a team that next season will be two Divisions lower than them. With neither side creating much in a typical end of season affair the game looked to be heading for a bore draw until Robbie Gardner second half header proved to be the goal that separated the two sides.
Division Three
Having been on the end of a 6-0 reverse the previous Thursday night, the Bengal Tigers had the ideal opportunity for revenge against Division champions Longfield when they entertained them once again last Sunday.
The Tigers took an early lead through Amzad Hussein's brilliant strike only for Dave Raine to equalise late in the first half. It was Raine who started the second as he had finished the first, scoring and giving Longfield a 2-1 advantage which, despite being reduced to ten men, they managed to hang onto for yet another three points.
Wheatsheaf ended their season on a sour note as they were beaten 4-0 by Affinity Healthcare, with Alex Hines and Shaun Macken doing the damage by both scoring twice.
The only other game played saw New All Stars all but secure the last promotion place to Division Two with a resounding 4-1 defeat of DfES. Goals in the first half from George Burton and Dan Wilson were complimented by another two in the second half from Ste Cheeseman and Rob Colgrave. Although DfES reduced their arrears through Jamie Callaghan the All Stars never looked in any danger of losing their advantage troubled.
