DISCO fever will be the lesson for the day as fundraising teachers boogie back to the Seventies to help save lives in Africa.
An Abba tribute band, made up of teachers and staff from Allertonshire School, in Northallerton, will take to the stage alongside professional singers and talented amateurs, for a night of entertainment to help raise funds for the Imagine Mozambique Charity.
The charity, which targets development and rehabilitation programmes in Mozambique including street children and HIV and Aids programmes, has forged close links with the school, which has raised more than £13,500 over the past few years.
Headteacher David Bradley said: "I am so proud of all the pupils and staff at the school for the magnificent effort they have put into raising such a large amount for the charity.
"We have already sent desks and school equipment, including computers and laptops, to schools across Mozambique, and some of our staff will be visiting the country in their own time over the summer holidays to see what else we can do to help."
Fundraising schemes included £3,500 from pupils saving loose change.
The school is also planning to hold an Africa festival week in July, which will feature drummers, dancers and martial arts experts.
Cheese and wine will be available at the concert, on Thursday, May 24, and the programme will include performances from professional French folk singer Flossy, the staff Abba tribute band, singer Jane Silmon Monerri, classical pianist Helen Archer, singer Sarah Jane Galtrey and jazz performer Katie Bradley.
It will start at 7pm. Tickets are £8, from the school.
