MONEY is on the mind of William Shakespeare, in a Durham School play which opened last night.

More than 40 pupils aged 11 to 13, are taking part in the play, Much Ado About Money, which was written by English teacher Hugh Dias.

"Shakespeare's in debt, and he has to write three plays in three months," Mr Dias said.

"But his work is sabotaged by three witches, and characters from his plays keep turning up at the wrong time.

"The children have been in rehearsals since February. Some are performing in public for the first time, and it's all coming together well."

Sam Weston stars as William Shakespeare, with Hannah Neal playing Mrs Shakespeare. Drama teacher Sarah Gibson is the producer.

The play will be performed again in Durham School's Luce Theatre tonight and on Saturday evening. Tickets, priced £3 for adults and £1 for concessions, are available by calling 0191-386-4783.
