A SCHOOLBOY'S success in a national photography competition has won him the chance to display his work in the gallery of one of the North’s best known photographers.

Thomas Snowdon, 13, from Stokesley, has been recognised as a new young talent by the Joe Cornish Gallery in Northallerton, which is staging an exhibition of his work.

Thomas was voted the national overall winner of the Rotary Club International Young Photographer of the Year competition after he entered his images through a link between his school and Stokesley Rotary.

Thousands of youngsters across the country entered the competition, which had a theme of “Light Up the Community.”

His winning images, which were taken at night, include Redcar seafront, the Infinity Bridge at Stockton and the Saltburn Cliff Lift.

Joe Cornish, who is best known for his landscape and outdoor work, set up the gallery in Zetland Street in Northallerton to showcase his own work and other photographers and artists.

Gallery spokesman Adam Richardson said: “When we heard of Thomas’ success in this national competition we were keen to recognise a young local talent.

"We are delighted to be able to provide this opportunity and hope it encourages him to develop his obvious photographic talent still further."

Light up the Community by Thomas Snowdon can be viewed at the gallery for the next three weeks.
