CIVIC leaders have marked the 50th anniversary of the European Union by praising the contribution it has made to the redevelopment of the town.
Europe Day offers the opportunity for Middlesbrough to promote its achievements using European funding, including the town's centrepiece art gallery, mima.
Since 2000, the town has seen significant improvements brought about by EU funding for successful partnerships, and more than 80 projects have benefited from support, receiving £28m between them.
The event also examined opportunities for further funding for the next six years.
Councillor David Budd, of Middlesbrough Council, gave the opening address, followed by speakers from Government Office North East and regional development agency One NorthEast.
