Gardening experts visited a Teesdale village hall to give advice to local people.
Malcolm Hockham, from Eggleston Hall Gardens, and Sarah Hopps, from Thirsk, who has a regular gardening slot on BBC Radio York, dropped in at Whorlton Village Hall.
Mr Hockham told the audience about his work helping to form a collection of new and unusual plants.
Mrs Hopps told the group how she changed from schoolmistress to horticultural question time panelist.
Questions from the audience ranged from inquiries about sickly Japanese azaleas to problems with climbing roses.
Mary Stastny, from Whorlton Village Hall, said: "It was a fascinating evening and everyone not only benefited from the experience and knowledge of Sarah and Malcolm but also from their great sense of humour."
