FIVE girls have been chosen to lead the parade at an annual village fete.
They will lead a line of floats to start Sedgefield Mediaeval Fair on May 19.
Centre of attention will be flower queen Megan Hetherington, nine, from Sedgefield County Primary School.
She will be joined by attendants Kate Thompson, ten, Kate Dovaston, nine, and Chloe Basford, 11, all from Hardwick School, Sedgefield, and Victoria Evans, eight, from Sedgefield County Primary School.
The girls were chosen during a disco at Sedgefield County Primary School. Dave Gill, a fair organiser, said: "We used to select the flower queen and the attendants, but it was a difficult job for all concerned. Now, we give the girls a ticket and pick out the winners."
The fair is in aid of Ceddesfeld Hall, home to organiser Sedgefield Community Association.
Attractions will include children's fancy dress, tug-of-war, morris dancing, medieval jousting and an art exhibition. Artists and photographers wishing to exhibit are asked to call 01740-621774.
