THE first major event held by the re-launched Northumberland and Durham Lady Taverners, proved to be a big success, with more than £7,000 raised by the charity.
The James Bond Casino Night, held at the Assembly Rooms, saw more than 260 guests enjoy a champagne reception and four-course dinner, followed by a casino evening.
Throughout the night, Douglas James, a Pierce Brosnan lookalike who acted as his body double in Tomorrow Never Dies, was on hand to help host the event and pose for photographs with guests.
Lady Taverners chairwoman Louise Robson said: "We are delighted that the evening was such a success.
"The generosity of our guests just goes to show what a giving region the North-East is.
"All money raised at the event will help the Lady Taverners in helping many young people in the region, particularly those with special needs, take part in sporting activities by providing specialist equipment.
Organisations and support groups who work with young people with special needs are invited to visit the group's website, www.lordstaverners.org
