A DURHAM musician has won a Rotary Club award.
Leila Panesar, a 19-year-old pianist, who is in her second year studying music at Cambridge University, won the James Etherington Award and £300 towards lessons and music.
The second prize of £150 was won by 17-year-old pianist Mengya Du, a pupil at St Leonard's School, in Durham.
The award is named after tenor James Etherington, famous for his performances in London West End shows, who lived in Chester-le-Street.
The James Etherington Music Trust and the Chester-le-Street Rotary Club sponsored the competition held in Chester-le-Street Methodist Church.
