BRAVE Ella Moran is preparing to take part in a run to raise cash for a children's cancer charity, despite suffering from the debilitating illness leukaemia.
Three-and-a-half-year-old Ella, who is undergoing chemotherapy, made clear her determination to take part in the event after learning that her mother, Hayley, was to participate in the Race for Life.
Mrs Moran said: "Ella was diagnosed with leukaemia a year ago. Because of her treatment, she was unable to walk for four months. She wouldn't put one foot on the floor, and still cannot run.
"When she heard that I was taking part in the Race for Life, she wanted to run with me, but she would not be able to manage 5km."
Mrs Moran, of Waldridge, near Chester-le-Street, said: "We were wondering if there was anything anybody her age could do, when we learned about the Greggs Cancer Run, which includes a one-mile mini-run."
Mrs Moran said Ella had other problems, as well, and still had to use a nasal tube because of feeding problems.
She said: "She cannot walk far without aid, but she is really determined."
The Greggs Cancer Run, which raises cash for North-East Children's Cancer Research, will be held at the Gosforth Park Racecourse, Newcastle, on Sunday.
