GLENN Roeder has resigned as Newcastle United manager after 15 months at St. James' Park.
The Magpies board called an emergency board meeting this afternoon after yesterday's home defeat to Blackburn Rovers left angry fans calling for Roeder's resignation.
Newcastle's season has been hampered by injury, but despite the return to fitness of England striker Michael Owen, the Magpies' poor form and position in the bottom half of the Premiership table has prompted Roeder to call time on his time on Tyneside.
Recently departed Bolton boss Sam Allardyce and Sven Goran Eriksson are the early contenders to succeed Roeder.
