A SECTION of the A1(M) was cordoned off after a large van caught fire.
North Yorkshire Police, firefighters and the Highways Agency attended the scene on the hard shoulder of the northbound carriageway, one mile from Junction 49, near Thirsk, shortly after 1pm today and said they found the Mercedes Sprinter vehicle “well ablaze”.

A police spokesman said two lanes of the stretch remained open while traffic was advised to slow down past the scene.
He said the van was cleared from the scene shortly after 2pm and that no one had been injured in the incident.
