A CHARITY shop chose a dramatic way to get shoppers to donate when it acted out the scene from a famous chocolate advert.

Volunteers and staff at Bishop Auckland’s Scope on Newgate Street presented their own version of the Milk Tray commercial as part of the national charity’s Great Donate stock appeal.

The would-be actors performed the spoof scene in the town’s Market Place on Saturday morning (July 18) and hope it will contribute to Scope’s national target of one million donations by the end of July.

The appeal accompanies an online video starring disabled comedian, Adam Hills and actress, Holly Valance in which The Last Leg comic dresses in black and delivers unseen a Scope donation bag, rather than chocolates, to his leading lady.

Shop manager, Jonathan Woodhouse said: “Money raised by our shops support thousands of disabled people and their families. But we need your help to continue this vital work – so please drop off the things you no longer need at your local Scope shop this July.”

Bishop Auckland’s mayor, Lee Brownson, supporting the event, added: "It was great to be involved in the summer appeal at the Bishop Auckland branch. Charity shops are always looking for help from the local community so why not have a good clear-out, put all those unwanted items into a bag, donate them and help support a great cause."
