Children and teachers in Erith and Belvedere are celebrating a double Ofsted achievement for the Primary schools in the newly formed Trinitas Academy Trust. St Augustine of Canterbury achieved GOOD after years of struggling to improve, and Christ Church (Erith) achieved OUTSTANDING; one of only three primary schools in the borough to achieve such a grade.
Before St Augustine joined Trinitas Academy Trust, it had never achieved better than Requires Improvement by Ofsted. However, its recent report says 'Pupils' achievement has increased rapidly since the school became an academy. Pupils make good progress in reading, writing and mathematics. Their attainment is rising rapidly.' The inspectors recognised the pupils' positive attitudes to learning, and praised how they are able to challenge themselves highly. The change at St Augustine has really been transformational. From the moment you enter the school and see the bright open reception area to walking around the school and seeing the children enthused in their learning, it is clear to all that this is a GOOD school.
Christ Church (Erith) is proud to be recognised as an OUTSTANDING school; an even greater achievement as the school is in the process of more than doubling in size! The school is rightly proud of its pupils who Ofsted described as 'extremely thoughtful, considerate and polite.' They describe Christ Church as having 'an atmosphere where they (pupils) are encouraged to take responsibility' and where 'pupils show considerable maturity'. The report explains that 'Pupils' outstanding achievement and extremely positive attitudes towards learning are as a result of outstanding teaching.' When asked what Trinitas’ secret is, Beverley Gardner, Executive Headteacher said 'we have a winning combination of inspirational leaders and staff, fantastic curriculum, and super children who absolutely love learning. We’re a great team!’ Although less than 2 years old, Trinitas really is going from strength to strength!
