A MAN has appeared in court charged with threatening to behead a Ukip election candidate for Newcastle East.
Aftab Ahmed, 45, is accused of making the threat to kill on the phone to David Robinson-Young during a conversation about the Middle East.
Ahmed, of Winchcombe Place, Heaton, appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court dressed in a suit and shirt and spoke only to confirm his name and address.
Mr Robinson-Young, 62, is standing as a candidate in the constituency of Newcastle East.
Ahmed was granted conditional bail and will go on trial in July.
