A WOMAN facing eviction from her home over claims that she ran up mortgage arrears has seen the courts reject her latest appeal.
Glynis Craggs, 59, is fighting Redstone Mortgages Limited about a house on Bridge Street, in Sunnybrow, Willington, County Durham.
Protestors gathered at the end of last week as Mrs Craggs and members of the Response North-East team, which helps people fight eviction, defied the bailiffs.
Mrs Craggs claims that she asked Redstone about the power of attorney on her mortgage and that this led to the company saying it had a complaint against her.
As a result she has not paid her mortgage on the house, bought in 1988, since January 2014.
Durham County Court today (Monday, March 16) rejected moves to have the bailiff’s warrant overthrown. The group is still working on ideas to resist eviction.
John Nattrass, of Response North-East, said: “Glynis is still in the house but the court upheld the warrant.
“We’re just holding the fort and waiting for the bailiffs. We’ve been told that the bailiffs can come in and we will resist them.
“We’ll peacefully resist them but if they use violence we will respond accordingly.
“We’re sad that the courts will not look at the paperwork.”
A Redstone spokesman said: “We obtained a possession order on July 11 2014 in respect of the borrowers' mortgaged property due to the extent of the arrears.
“The customers have had sufficient notice of the eviction date and have been afforded ample opportunity to make the necessary arrangements to leave the property.
“As with any borrowers, repossession is very much a last resort for Redstone. However, the court was satisfied that Redstone had sufficient grounds to enforce its possession order.”
