TWO prestigious musical groups will perform at an historic college this weekend (February 20-21).
The doors of Ushaw College, a 200-year-old former Catholic seminary near Durham City, will be thrown open for concerts by the Westlands Choir, performing Stabat Mater, and the college’s own String Quartet.
Stabat Mater features 13th Century words describing the sorrows of Mary, the mother of Jesus, set to music by Pergolesi in 1736.
The Sunderland-based female choir will be led by Teresa Dewhurst and accompanied by Paul Dewhurst on the organ.
Friday’s show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6 each.
The Ushaw College String Quartet will perform works by Mozart and Schubert, led by violinist Ed Cross.
The Saturday concert starts at 3pm. Tickets are £5 each.
