BOTTLES of whisky are set to be auctioned for more than £1,000 a bottle in Barnard Castle tomorrow (Thursday, December 11).
The Whisky, Wine and Spirits Sale, the first of its type for auctioneers, Addisons of Barnard Castle, includes around 100 lots ranging from single malts, expected to reach in excess of £1,000 a bottle, to a selection of wines with guide prices of £20-30.
“We are delighted by the number and quality of the lots in this collection,” said auctioneer and valuer William McNab. “A large amount of the wine has come from a single cellar but most of the spirits have been entered by private individuals, giving us a tremendous range and variety.”
Examples of the highest lots include a Laphroaig 1981 vintage 27-year-old Islay single malt whisky, limited edition 411/736 at cask strength and an Ardbeg "Lord of the Isles" Islay single malt whisky, cased in collector "sarcophagus" form box with accompanying scroll, which are both expected to be sold for more than £1,000.
People can view the items at The Auction Rooms, in Staindrop Road, from 8am until 9.45am before the sale starts at 10am.
