THE condition of a woman who became trapped beneath a car after she was knocked down on a zebra crossing is improving, police have said.
The 48-year-old, from Ebchester, who was dragged underneath a Vauxhall Corsa, remains seriously ill in hospital, but officers have said she is making progress.
She suffered serious injuries to her head and body during the accident in Newmarket Street, Consett, County Durham, just after 3pm on Thursday, November 20.
The Corsa, driven by an 85-year-old local woman, collided with the woman, who was on a zebra crossing, near to the junction with Victoria Street, not far from the town’s police station on Parliament Street.
She was flown to Royal Victoria Infirmary by the Great North Air Ambulance after the town centre was closed off to allow the rescue helicopter to land.
The police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
Anyone with information is asked to call 101.
