A REVIEW of an inquest into the death of an elderly woman who died after an alleged attack in a care home took place in Crook today (Tuesday, December 9)
Jennie Bryant, 89, died at University Hospital North Durham, on July 5 after suffering head injuries during an incident at Brockwell Court Care Home, in Cobden Street, Consett.
The care home, which has 75 beds, provides specialist care for residents who require dementia support, general nursing and palliative care, as well as low-dependency residential assistance.
A 71-year-old man and fellow resident suspected of attacking Mrs Bryant, on June 28, was arrested by police on suspicion of assault.
A police spokesman confirmed officers have still not been able to interview the suspect and he is still detained at a hospital under the Mental Health Act.
County Durham coroner, Andrew Tweddle, heard that there was still an ongoing investigation into the incident and that papers had been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service.
A further review will take place on February 9, 2015.
