DARLINGTON Mowden Park Rugby Club is now running The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE) to benefit its young players and the surrounding community.
The club is running the scheme as part of the DofE and Dallaglio Foundation’s partnership ‘Powerful Together’.
The partnership sees English rugby star Lawrence Dallaglio’s Foundation linking up with the DofE to encourage rugby clubs to run the scheme for its young rugby enthusiasts and local residents aged 14 to 24.
Mowden Park representatives were presented with their DofE licence by Trustee of the DofE, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson and Peter Ward, rugby manager at the Dallaglio Foundation, during a presentation at St. James’s Palace, London.
Those who take part in the DofE have to volunteer, learn a skill, get fit and plan and undertake an expedition over six to 18 months of challenging activity.
