BARNARD Castle Town Council has agreed to ring-fence £600 of funding for a Medieval Day next year.
At its Partnership Committee meeting on December 1, councillors heard plans for the themed weekend for July 3, 4 and 5, which would particularly focus on Richard III as it will be the anniversary of his coronation and the year planned to re-inter his remains after they were found under a pub car park in 2012.
The weekend would be jointly organised with the help of the Northern Dales Richard III Group and events would include entertainment, a storyteller and a service in St Mary’s Church.
A ticketed feast would also be held on the Saturday night with a full hog roast and three-course-meal for up to 80 people.
The council is also hoping to get a grant to put on additional entertainment.
Councillor Sandra Moorhouse said: “People have already said they want to go to the feast, but we need something in the day as well.”
The council agreed to ring-fence £600 from the spring and summer budget.
