HUNDREDS of children from eight schools across Darlington have seen the journey of Mary and Joseph brought to life by a creative church initiative.
The youngsters are guided round six areas inside St John’s Church on Neasham Road that all represent different stages of Mary and Joseph’s journey.
Each area has an element of interaction for the children, for example, smelling incense when they enter the Three Kings’ section, and dressing as shepherds when in the ‘barn’.
Reverend Sheilagh Williamson said the project has been a huge success.
She said: “The children think it is brilliant.
“We are writing up some of the things they say and they include; ‘this is the best journey I have ever been on’ and ‘I am so excited about going to Bethlehem, I have never been there before!’
“They just love it and it is a fun way to tell the story of Christmas.”
The children involved are all in primary school year two, aged between six and seven, and the event has taken place across three days with each school given their own time slot.
