POP star Joe McElderry is to stage a charity gig at his old workplace.

The X-Factor winner will perform at The Customs House, South Shields, on Sunday, February 22, to raise money for The Customs House Trust, an arts charity on South Tyneside.

The matinee show starts at 2.30pm.

The 23-year-old said: “After all of my memories and amazing times at The Customs House throughout my career and previously, I wanted to give back to a place that is very important for performing arts in South Shields.”

The winner of television reality shows Popstar to Operastar and The Jump has already sold out evening shows at The Customs House on February 21 and 22, as part of his Evolution tour.

Next year is the building’s 150th anniversary and its 21st year as an entertainment venue.

Ray Spencer, the venue’s executive director, said: “2015 is such a special year and Joe has made it all the more special by showing his support for what we do here.

“We hope the people of South Tyneside follow in his footsteps and help support what we do in the community.

“Joe’s latest show is sure to be another knock-out performance and we’re delighted he is doing so well. We’d just like to say well done Joe and thank you for your support.”

Tickets for the charity concert are priced £20.50, £19 for concessions and £64 for families. To book, call the box office on 0191-454-1234 or visit customshouse.co.uk
